Breeders'
Cup Tribute to a Fallen Champion 2007
For the 2nd
year in a row a tragic accident has marred the Breeders'
Cup as Irish Champion, George Washington, severely broke his right
leg in the stretch and had to be put down at the muddy finish line
just
yards away from the victory celebration for Classic winner Curlin.
The brave thoroughbred stayed a foot saving jockey, Michael Kinane,
from injury, even though his right front cannon bone had perched
his
skin. This was only the 2nd time the European Turf Champion had run
on a dirt track and it proved fatal. Let's hope this spirited
Fallen Champion
can now roam the green grass of his native home of Ireland in peace.
