Monmouth
University Men's Basketball 2006-7 The 2006 NEC
Defending Champion's season came to end Monday night, Feb. 26th with a
loss
to St. Francis, PA resulting in the Hawk's failing to qualify for
the NEC Tourn. But when the
the five seniors clean out their lockers for the last time, they
should hold their heads high as they
leave Boylan Gym with the knowledge of the glory and recognition
they brought to the program
during their tenure: 2 NEC Titles, 2 Trips to the NCAA Tourn.,
and the programs 1st NCAA Tourn.
win. Even though this year's team fell short of it's goals,
there's been a lesson that should not be
over looked in the form of Senior Marques Alston of Neptune.
Marques has been a role model of
strength, consistency, and hard work ever since he stepped on the
court 4 years ago and remained
so even in the face of the tragic loss of his father at the
beginning of this season. He handled the
situation with the maturity and quiet dignity of someone far beyond
his years both on and off the
court. His teammates who step on the court in the fall of 2007
should remember the standard
he set and draw inspiration from it. Marques we're going to
miss you. And thanks for reminding
us that you can make a big impression without a lot of fanfare and
actions still speak louder than words.
